Daniel Defense Delta 5 rifle: punctual or meaningless? ~video

United States-(AmmoLand.com)-When Daniel Defense announced the launch of the Delta 5 rifle, my first question was why?
It was like hearing that Ferrari was going into a pickup truck. This does not mean that they are not doing well, but this is not their core market. Don’t get me wrong, all the marketing materials, glamour shots and large billboard advertisements on SHOT Show 2020 are undoubtedly exciting for me, but there are many great mature rifle rifle designs on the market.
Which raises the question, when there are dozens of designs with decades of performance, why would shooters risk trying unproven designs?
Indeed, if it is to succeed in the civilian market, Daniel Defence Delta 5 must defeat dozens of designs with decades of experience and a reliable and reliable record under combat conditions. So let’s stretch the legs of Delta 5 and find out.
Daniel Defense Delta 5 (Daniel Defense Delta 5) is a magazine-style, precise rifle-style rifle, suitable for .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor. The .308 version uses a 20-inch barrel, while the 6.5 cm version uses a 24-inch barrel. For review, we tested the 6.5 cm model. All versions of the spray gun come from a detachable single-row AICS magazine and come with a 5-wheel polymer Magpul example in the box.
As for features, Delta 5 is full of so many things that it is easy to miss something if it is mentioned or ordered. Therefore, we will start with stocks and move on.
Daniel Defense Delta 5 is equipped with high-strength polymer raw materials for injection molding. At the rear, it includes a certain length of adjustable butt pad that can be pulled, the pad uses a pad, and an adjustable comb with a fixed tension, no matter how big the beam is, it can make the shooter avoid what they like optical instrument.
But the rifle itself is not just inside the stock. It is actually located in a small aluminum two-piece mini-chassis, which can firmly clamp the action in the butt without the need for a traditional rifle cushion. This material, combined with the rigid material used in the inventory structure, ensures that the barrel is completely free to float for maximum consistency/accuracy.
On top of this, the bolt itself is a three-lug push-in design with a short stroke and can be rotated 60 degrees. This is an ideal combination of strength and fast operating functions. Below this, the hole of the magazine is cut into a magazine suitable for AICS mode, and the gun has a slightly larger dexterous pick release device that can quickly replace the magazine.
Most importantly, Delta 5 comes with a 20 MOA Picatinny optical rail, which is directly fixed to the rear seat lugs to ensure that even if it is possible to provide a powerful universal storage room in the future, it will not rattle. This guide rail is also ideal for the Delta 5 as a long-range precision weapon, because it provides the shooter with additional elevation adjustments for true long-range shooting.
Advance is the core of any sophisticated weapon-the barrel. Daniel Defence didn’t care at all. Delta 5 has a hammer-forged barrel manufactured by Daniel Defence himself, which is transported from the factory to a standard 5/8x24in with threads. The barrel of the 6.5 Creedmoor model tested was 24 inches, while the barrel of the 308 model was slightly shorter at 20 inches.
Below the barrel, the Delta-5 includes three M-Lok slots at three, six and nine o’clock positions.
Since the Delta 5 is not only considered a precision rifle, but it can be used in the field under various conditions, so I am not satisfied with punching paper on the workbench. Therefore, I took the risk to go to a friend’s property in South Carolina. We set up steel targets at different distances from 200 to 750 yards. For glass, Vortex lent me the Vortex HD Razor Gen 2 rifle scope, so that I can get enough magnification and clarity to maximize the potential of Delta 5.
In addition, I used the Atlas bipod from Accu-Shot, which is mounted on the Magpul polymer M-Lok Picatinny track section. This is an extremely durable and well-made bipod, even an Eskimo shooter can easily perform push-ups-yes, it is really strong.
Throughout the testing process, as long as the shooter can play its due role, Delta 5 will never hit a 5-inch steel swingman, and aiming a large target at 750 yards can be done easily. Actually, I think every lady is a shooter mistake. Due to the use of COVID, the shooter was unable to shoot many long-range shots for a long time.
However, since this is a precision weapon, it is equally important to test it at a known distance under as controlled conditions as possible. Therefore, before I went to the farm for long-range shooting, I tested the gun at 100 yards with three different 6.5 Creedmoor loads. Normally, I like to do three groups of five rounds, but in view of the high price and the current limited ammunition, I decided to zero the guns and allow them to do five rounds for each group to cool down for five minutes.
The results are very impressive, with Delta 5 reaching slightly more than half the MOA, which is half an inch at 100 yards. But given Daniel Defence’s history of making high-quality precision guns, this is not surprising.
From the previous paragraph, it is clear that Delta 5 can provide incredible accuracy, but guns are more important than that. So let’s go deeper.
Personally, I really like the stock’s adjustable pull length and adjustable comb. The stock itself feels durable, strong and well made. In other words, I am not a loyal supporter of pistol grip expansion, although this is not something Daniel Defense messed up, but I personally prefer small and medium (schmedium?) hands like me. Having said that, I can still dodge the rifle comfortably and hit the target easily.
My other dissatisfaction with the spray gun is the bolt design concept-this is a push-in design. Most people would not care about these two methods, but if I were to design guns for the TEOTWAWKI scenario, it would be a controlled design. For beginners, the difference is that the control feed bolt retains the filter element until it is fully pulled back. In this case, the push-in feed just slides the bullet out of the magazine and enters the feed ramp upward. Road, and then enter the chamber.
When everything is normal, the difference between the two is academic. The problem that may arise is that when the shooter hurriedly manipulates the bolt, the gun may be fed in and cause its failure. That said, I have never encountered any reliability problems caused by bolts, so please decide for yourself.
Speaking of reliability, I had a strange problem when I received the gun. Sometimes, the provided magazine may not sit high enough for the bolt to eject a bullet from it. I tested Magpul magazines with different capacities in AICS mode on the same gun and the same ammunition to confirm that it was a magazine and did not encounter any problems. In other words, the tested gun is a review/loan gun of Daniel Defence. Therefore, I am definitely not the first person to work hard, and may be more like the 15th. Therefore, previous reviewers may sometimes manually manipulate the magazine or damage the magazine in some way.
For me, the Daniel Defensive Delta 5-bolt action rifle is the best choice for shooters. They want a precision rifle that can shoot 1000 yards, but they don’t want to use a tactical water gun machine gun. It is definitely not cheap, but with the recent price cuts, Daniel Defence Delta 5 has changed from a good deal to a good deal. Therefore, if you have been buying a sophisticated rifle-style rifle, and like Daniel Defence or just a durable, unique design, then Delta 5 can definitely solve this problem.

It makes no sense to use the base for the air gun instead of the appropriate height ring to mount the optics.
Since it has an adjustable inspection stand, the oscilloscope mount and ring kit seem to be suitable. It’s not unusually high like an oscilloscope.
$ 1799.00. Now, if I can find an equivalent optical device at twice the price, I will have a new way to spend all my time and money.
